The faculty is a peer of the former Bukhara State Pedagogical Institute, founded in 1930 and called the Faculty of Natural Sciences until 1992.
Initially, the departments of chemistry, botany and zoology operated in the Faculty of Natural Sciences. Later, departments of agricultural basics and geography, human and animal anatomy and physiology were established. In the full-time department of the faculty "Biology and Chemistry, Basics of Chemistry, Biology and Agriculture", "Basics of Biology and Agriculture", "Geography and Biology", "Chemistry and Pedagogy", and in the part-time department, " Teachers have been trained for secondary schools in "Biology" and "Geography" specialties. Students from Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Khorezm regions, partly from Samarkand and other regions studied at the faculty. Aslanova, M. Kh. Khalilov, A. F. Fayziev, L. R. Akramov, senior teacher Kh. Kh. Shamasov, zoologists Prof. M.O.Abdullaev, Yu.M.Saidov, T.S.Salomov, M.R.Ergashev, geographers Yu.S.Salomov, I.K.Nazarov, U.Nurov, doctor of medical sciences from anatomists and physiologists, prof.P.N.Karlenko, docents T.Yuldosheva, R.A.Usmonova, A.Kh. Hasanov, D.S. Niyazov, associate professors of agricultural sciences S.M. Ibrokhimov, Sh.B. Sodikov, N.K. Kasimova, O.A. Abdiev, O.M. Yoriyev, R.A. Shoymardonov, S.B. Boriyev, H.N. Mavlyanov, N.Sh. Professors and teachers, like Kattayev, made their proper contribution to strengthening the material and technical base of the departments, increasing the efficiency of the educational process and scientific researches.
In 1992, by the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, after the Bukhara State Pedagogical Institute was given the status of a university, the Faculty of Natural Sciences was named the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology. In 2005, the Faculty of Agriculture joined the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology, and the Faculty of Natural Sciences was established. From 2019, the Faculty of Agronomy and Biotechnology separated from the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
In the years of independence, the faculty was headed by Prof. S.B. Baqoev (1992-2006), Prof. R.A. Shoymardonov (1996-2002), docent M. Ya. Ergashov (2002-2005), prof. S.B. Boriev (2005-2007), Prof. M.R. Amonov (2010), Associate Professor Kh.T. Artikova (2012-2020), managed. Since 2021, the faculty has been managed by associate professor E.D. Niyazov. Today, the faculty has 942 students in 5 fields of study (Chemistry, Chemical technology (by types of production), Oil and gas chemical industry technology, Geography, Ecology and environmental protection), Chemistry specialty 56 students are studying (in the field of science), 17 in Geography (in the field of study). 4 of the 52 professors in the departments of the faculty are doctors of science and professors, and 17 are candidates of science and docents (associate professors).
After 2000, 3 state chest medalists, 2 presidential scholars, 1 El-Yurt Umidi Fund grant holder, more than 15 Olympiad winners have grown up in the faculty. In the years of independence, the material and technical base of the faculty was strengthened. It is equipped as required today. In the laboratories of "Inorganic Chemistry", "Organic Chemistry", "Analytical Chemistry", "Physical and Colloidal Chemistry", "Ecology", appropriate conditions have been created for conducting practical training at a high level. The laboratories of "Chemistry of coordination compounds", "Chemistry of composite materials" and "Physiology and biochemistry of plants" have all conditions for conducting scientific research. Doctor of chemical sciences, Prof. O.M. Yoriev, Doctor of technical sciences, Prof. M.R. Amonov, Doc. Q.A. Ravshanov, Doc. M.S. Sharipov, Doc. H.Q. Razzokov, Doc. S.I. Nazarov and others are conducting research on the topic of creating technology for obtaining composite materials based on natural and synthetic polymers.
