Bukhara State University held a series of landmark ceremonies marking the beginning of the 2026/2027 academic year, the official induction of first-year students, and the inauguration of a new state-of-the-art academic building with a capacity of 2,700 students.

The ceremony was attended by Governor of the Bukhara Region Botir Zaripov; Director of the Uzbekistan National News Agency and Senator Abdusaid Kochimov; Editor-in-Chief of the Yangi O‘zbekiston and Pravda Vostoka newspapers and Honoured Journalist of Uzbekistan Salim Doniyorov; distinguished guests from national and regional institutions; heads of government and public organizations; veteran educators and mentors; faculty members; students; and representatives of the wider community.

Governor of the Bukhara Region Botir Zaripov opened the ceremony and warmly congratulated the university community and students on the beginning of the new academic year and the commissioning of the new academic building.

In his address, the Governor emphasized the priority accorded to education and research across the country, the expanding opportunities being created for young people, the modern environment being established for acquiring advanced knowledge and professional skills, and the significance of the major development initiatives currently being implemented at Bukhara State University.

“Today’s event marks far more than the beginning of a new academic year. It represents the opening of new opportunities for our young people, another tangible expression of the immense attention being devoted to education and research, and an important milestone in the advancement of Bukhara’s education system,” Botir Zaripov said.

A New Academic Year — Towards New Goals

Addressing the ceremony, Rector of Bukhara State University, Professor Obidjon Khamidov, congratulated the university community, faculty members and students on the beginning of the 2026/2027 academic year.

The Rector extended particular congratulations to the first-year students who had newly joined the university community and earned the distinction of becoming “BukhSU students.” He encouraged them to make full use of the opportunities available at the university, pursue academic excellence, and actively engage in research, creative inquiry and intellectual development.

For the current academic year, 4,432 students have been recommended for admission to 71 undergraduate programmes at the university. Of these, 1,017 have secured places funded through state grants. A total of 190 applicants who achieved the maximum score of 189 points chose Bukhara State University, while 23 students were recommended for additional state grants on the basis of their SAT certificates.

Director of the Uzbekistan National News Agency and Senator Abdusaid Kochimov also congratulated the students on the new academic year, encouraging them to pursue knowledge, engage actively in research and intellectual development, and take an active role in today’s rapidly evolving information and media environment.

Editor-in-Chief of the Yangi O‘zbekiston and Pravda Vostoka newspapers and Honoured Journalist of Uzbekistan Salim Doniyorov conveyed his best wishes to the students and reflected on the vital role of a highly educated, broad-minded younger generation with a strong sense of responsibility for the future of their homeland in advancing the country’s development.

Engaging with Students through “Independence Lessons”

As part of the programme, “Independence Lessons” were also organized under the motto “One Homeland, One People — Together, Let Us Build a New Life and a New Future!”

Governor of the Bukhara Region Botir Zaripov participated in the “Independence Lessons” and engaged in an open dialogue with students. The discussion focused on the significance of independence in the lives of the younger generation, the effective use of opportunities available today for education and professional development, and the responsibility of young people to contribute meaningfully to the progress of their homeland through their knowledge, skills and potential.

The Governor also familiarized himself with the new organizational structure of Bukhara State University. He was briefed on the areas of activity of the newly established faculties and research institutes, their objectives in strengthening the integration of education and research, and the key priorities to be implemented during the new academic year.

Modern UZS 86.5 Billion Academic Complex Commissioned

One of the major highlights of the occasion was the official inauguration of a new state-of-the-art academic building designed to accommodate 2,700 students.

Funded through UZS 86.5 billion of the university’s own resources, the newly developed complex comprises a 2,700-capacity academic building, a Solar Physics Research Laboratory, an Information Resource Centre, and student accommodation for 400 residents.

During the inauguration ceremony, distinguished guests cut the symbolic red ribbon, officially marking the commissioning of the new academic building. A symbolic key to the new facility was then ceremonially presented to the university community.

Following the ceremony, the Governor and distinguished guests toured the new building and familiarized themselves with its modern infrastructure. Contemporary classrooms, dedicated spaces for teaching and research, and a digitally enabled, innovation-oriented learning environment will provide students with extensive opportunities to receive high-quality education, undertake research and pursue creative and intellectual initiatives.

The new academic building will accommodate the Faculties of Economics and Tourism, State Audit, Foreign Languages, and Law.

The Next Major Stage in BukhSU’s Development

Another major initiative is currently under way as part of the university’s long-term development strategy. In particular, a new modern campus for Bukhara State University is being developed across a 30.2-hectare site.

The project envisages the construction of academic facilities with a total capacity of 20,000 students, along with student residences accommodating 5,400 students. This large-scale development is expected to significantly expand the university’s educational and research capacity, create a modern and comfortable environment for students, and further enhance Bukhara’s standing as one of Uzbekistan’s leading centres of education and research.

The beginning of the 2026/2027 academic year, the official student induction ceremony, the “Independence Lessons,” the launch of the university’s renewed organizational structure, and the commissioning of the modern educational complex together mark the beginning of a new chapter in the development of Bukhara State University. For the BukhSU community, the new academic year represents a period of ambitious goals and new achievements aimed at further enhancing educational quality, strengthening research capacity, and expanding opportunities for students.
