A department dedicated to modern education in biological sciences, fundamental and applied research, the study of biodiversity, and the development of innovative approaches.
The Department of Biology at Bukhara State University trains qualified specialists in biological sciences, develops scientific research, and integrates modern pedagogical technologies into the educational process.
The department traces its historical roots to the Department of Zoology, established in 1930 at the Bukhara State Pedagogical Institute. In subsequent years, various fields of biological science developed through the Departments of Botany and Zoology.
In September 2024, the Departments of Botany and Plant Physiology and Zoology and General Biology were merged to form a unified Department of Biology. Since September 2025, the department has been headed by Laziz Tolipovich Yuldoshov, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biological Sciences and Associate Professor.
Professors M.A. Abdullayev, S.B. Boriyev, S.B. Baqoyev, and many other scholars made significant contributions to the establishment and development of the department. The scientific schools formed in botany and zoology laid the foundation for the modern Department of Biology.
The Department of Zoology began operating at the Bukhara State Pedagogical Institute.
The Scientific Laboratory for Biotechnology Problems was established under Professor S.B. Boriyev.
A unified Department of Biology was formed from the Departments of Botany and Zoology.
The department joined the Faculty of Agronomy and Biotechnology. A scientific council specializing in biotechnology and plant physiology began operating.
The Departments of Botany and Plant Physiology and Zoology and General Biology were established.
The two departments were merged to re-establish the Department of Biology.
Associate Professor L.T. Yuldoshov assumed the position of Head of Department.
Study modes: full-time, part-time/correspondence, and second higher education.
Specialization by field. Study modes: full-time and evening.

The Department of Biology develops research partnerships with foreign universities, research centers, and leading higher education institutions in Uzbekistan. Particular attention is given to academic mobility, scientific exchange, joint research, and participation in international projects.
In 2026, an academic visit to Yıldız Technical University in Istanbul took place under the international project “Interaction and Integration of the Turkic World” (TDEABP, 2026–2030).
During the visit, the innovation ecosystem of Yıldız Teknopark and the research facilities of Bahçeşehir University were explored. Discussions also covered academic mobility, international scientific publications, and future collaborative projects.
The department offers theoretical and practical courses in various branches of biological sciences at both undergraduate and master's levels.
The department has extensive experience in involving talented students in scientific research and preparing them for subject Olympiads and state scholarship competitions. Over the years, students have won prizes at national biology Olympiads and received the Ulugbek State Scholarship.
Second and third places at national biology Olympiads.
Recipients of the Ulugbek State Scholarship.
