Deep Respect for the Legacy of Great Ancestors — A Vivid Expression of the Spiritual Progress of New Uzbekistan

During the visit of the esteemed President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to the Samarkand region, special attention was given to the ongoing development and restoration works at the sacred sites associated with such great scholars as Imam Maturidi and Imam Bukhari. The President’s close attention to these blessed places, as well as to their spiritual, scholarly, and educational significance, is a clear reflection of the state policy consistently pursued in our country to preserve, study, and pass on our rich national and religious-educational heritage to future generations.

Particularly noteworthy is the reconstruction of the Imam Maturidi complex, where a mosque, a library, a museum, and modern infrastructure facilities are being built. In addition, during the course of the construction work, the burial site of the great jurist Burhoniddin Marginani was identified, and a mausoleum is also being erected there. All this stands as a vivid testament to the profound respect being shown to the legacy of our ancestors in New Uzbekistan. These noble efforts not only restore historical memory, but also strengthen, especially in the hearts of young people, a deep sense of pride in our great forebears.

Likewise, the reconstruction of the Imam Bukhari complex in a form worthy of the eminent status of our great muhaddith in the Islamic world, the creation of modern and comfortable conditions for pilgrims, and the establishment of an innovative museum of scholarly and educational content, a mosque, a tourism center, and service infrastructure are developments of great importance for the entire Muslim world. Undoubtedly, this once again demonstrates our country’s commitment to the ideals of enlightenment, tolerance, and kindness.

The President’s view that these sacred places should serve not only as pilgrimage destinations, but also as genuine centers of knowledge, enlightenment, moral education, and inspiration places a great responsibility on the higher education system, particularly on universities. Indeed, the rich scholarly and spiritual legacy of such great figures as Imam Maturidi, Imam Bukhari, Imam Tirmidhi, and Burhoniddin Marginani serves as an invaluable source for educating young people in the spirit of sound belief, high morality, patriotism, tolerance, and enlightenment.

As the community of Bukhara State University, we fully support the ideas and initiatives advanced by our President. In today’s era of globalization and increasingly complex ideological challenges, protecting young people from harmful ideas and destructive influences, while fostering in them a strong spiritual resilience, is closely linked to the scholarly heritage of our great ancestors, their enlightened worldview, and their exemplary life paths.

In this regard, the construction and further improvement of the complexes associated with such towering scholars as Imam Maturidi and Imam Bukhari are far more than projects of architectural or historical significance. They are a practical confirmation that our people are moving confidently along the path of spiritual renewal, national self-awareness, and development grounded in knowledge and enlightenment.

Particularly significant are the President’s remarks that every visitor to these complexes should, first and foremost, gain a clear understanding of the scholar’s intellectual and spiritual legacy, as well as his distinguished place in the Islamic world. Such an approach calls for these sacred sites to be enriched with deeper meaning and for their educational and enlightening impact to be further strengthened. This, in turn, places important responsibilities on academic institutions, higher education establishments, researchers, and specialists alike.

Bukhara State University remains committed to making a worthy contribution to the large-scale spiritual and educational reforms being carried out in our country, to the advancement of science and education, and to the in-depth study and promotion of our ancestral heritage. Instilling in the hearts of our students a determination to be worthy of our great forebears and to carry forward their scholarly courage and enlightenment traditions remains one of our highest priorities.

The esteemed President’s historically and spiritually significant visit to Samarkand, and the high regard he has shown for the legacy of our great ancestors, inspire all of us and give us renewed strength, motivation, and a profound sense of responsibility. We are confident that, thanks to such noble initiatives, the ideals of knowledge, enlightenment, kindness, and tolerance will become even more firmly rooted in our country, while our sacred sites will evolve into places not only of pilgrimage, but also of reflection, education, and spiritual growth.
