The Department was established following the decision of the Bukhara State University Council at its first meeting on August 29, 2020, and in accordance with the Decree No. 472-01-U dated October 3, 2020, regarding “Changes to the Structure of University Faculties and Departments.” Initially, it separated from the Department of English Literature and began operating independently under the name Department of English Literary Studies. In 2022, the Department of English Literature and Stylistics and the Department of English Literary Studies merged into a single unit under the name Department of English Literary Studies. Since 2023, it has been functioning as the Department of English Literature and Translation Studies.

Research Activities. The department possesses a high level of scientific and technological capacity for training qualified specialists. It currently employs 30 academic staff members, including 17 faculty members with academic degrees: 4 Doctors of Philology and 13 PhD holders. The department's scientific potential stands at 57%.
Currently, the department hosts 32 PhD students and 22 independent researchers. Notably, the 3rd-year PhD student M.T. Pulatova became an award winner of the Presidential State Scholarship of Uzbekistan in 2025. Eight researchers plan to defend their dissertations within this year.
In line with the 2025 Comprehensive Development Program, the department is actively working on expanding international collaboration, involving foreign specialists, and establishing contracts with about 10 partner universities and research centers abroad.
In 2024–2025 academic year, Gabrielle Klema, an English language specialist from the USA, joined the department and is currently working with the faculty.
To enhance the visibility and efficiency of foreign grants and competitions, associate professor Mehrinigor Bahadirovna Akhmedova has developed a multilingual (English, German, French, Chinese, Arabic) information database.
Through international education-oriented grants, the department has organized opportunities for 100 students to study and intern abroad and established a Winter School on Structural Linguistic Research in cooperation with the University of Göttingen and the Center for East European International Studies (Germany).
International Cooperation. Throughout 2024, many faculty members delivered lectures and enhanced their qualifications at prestigious universities ranked among the Top 1000 globally, including: Sofia University (Bulgaria), Istanbul Commerce University (Turkey), The English and Foreign Languages University (India).
The department successfully secured funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for the project ID-57663348 “European Perspectives in Dialogue: Central Asia and Western Research,” running from January 15, 2023, to March 30, 2026.
Additionally, the department is implementing the Erasmus KA171 Academic Mobility Program with Pavol Jozef Šafárik University for the 2024–2027 period.
Activities with Distinguished Students.  The department works closely with more than 30 talented students, with 60% of students enrolled in the translation programs holding C1 level language certificates. These students regularly participate in and win prizes at national and international conferences and competitions.

The educational content has been modeled after programs from 14 higher education institutions across 7 countries (USA, UK, Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, China, Brazil, UAE, and Saudi Arabia), including:
