History of Bukhara State University

The history of the establishment of a higher educational institution in Bukhara Sharif Mosque of Jome (712-713), Forjak (VIII century), Gharbia (1088-1677), Ulug'bek (1417), Mir Arab (1535), Abdulaziz Khan (1652) ), related to the history of Madrasahs like Nadir Devanbegi and Ko`kaldosh. Until 1920, 127 madrasahs operated in Bukhara. In these madrasahs, among the great Bukharis such as Ismail al-Bukhari, Abu Ali ibn Sina, Abu Bakr Narshahi, Abdukhaliq Ghijduvani, Bahauddin Naqshband, Khoja Ismat Bukhari, A. Donish, S. Ainiy, A. Fitrat, Ro`daki of the East, Zamakhshari, Umar Khayyam, Makhtumquli, B.Kerboboev, and Muqimi were educated as well.
        In 1922, by the decision of the Bukhara People's Republic, the Institute of Public Education was opened in Bukhara and Chorjoi. This was the first step towards establishing a modern higher educational institution. F. Khojayev and A. Fitrat came up with the idea of establishing a medical center on the basis of this institute, but this idea did not come true after the termination of the Institute. By 1930, the Bukhara Pedagogical Institute was opened. Initially, 45 students studied in its two departments, such as chemistry-biology and history-sociology. In 1935, a 2-year teachers' institute and 5 departments functioned as part of BuxDPI, later these departments were transformed into faculties. A. Fitrat, Miyonbuzruk Solihov, Musa Saidjonov, B. Cho'ponzoda, I. Kojin, F. Trudakov, P. Korolenko, N. Merkulovich, V. Abdullayev, G. Yusupov contributed greatly to the establishment of the institute. During the Second World War, a number of teachers and 47 students went to war as volunteers. Branches were opened in Karshi, G`ijduvan and Shafirkon in order to attract more students to study in this difficult period. Khorezm, Karshi and Termiz state universities, which have risen to the level of leading higher educational institutions of independent Uzbekistan, were the first to work as branches within BukhDPI.
      BuxDPI gained fame as one of the leading educational institutions of the republic in the post-war years: the number of students increased from 521 to 1575 in 1946-1960, and to 7531 in 1960-1980; M. Mirzayev, Sh. Balavadze, S. Aliyev, M. Abdullayev, V. Mominov, N. Jabborov, J. Namozov, H. Nematov, F. Kasimov, B. Ochilov, R. Vohidov at the university in different years , O.Safarov, A.Atoyev, O.Yoriyev, R.Rakhmonov, K.Zaripov, S.Inoyatov, O.Rozikov were active in science and education; areas of science such as chemistry, physics, heliotechnics, ichthyology, philosophy, history, literary studies, linguistics developed; In 1989, postgraduate courses in linguistics and literature were opened under BukhDPI. The institute became one of the modern science centers of the republic and was awarded with an order in 1981.
      People's Poet of Tajikistan, winner of the State Prize named after Rodaki G. Sulaymonova, People's Poet J. Kamal, People's Writer N. Aminov, Correspondent member of Belarusian FA A. Stolyar, Director of TAI named after A. Navoiy FA of UzR, Ph.D. It can be noted with pride that T. Mirzayev, world champions S. Qurbanov and B. Khojayev were students of BukhPI.
• The institute was transformed into a university in 1992.
• According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan I.A. Karimov dated February 28, 1992, the opportunities expanded even more when the Bukhara Pedagogical Institute was granted the status of a University. Currently, the university has 8 faculties, 43 departments, a special correspondence department and a training center. The university offers bachelor's degrees in 36 fields of study, master's degrees in 22 specialties, postgraduate studies in 23 specialties, and doctoral studies in 4 fields.
• In this way, the scientific possibilities of the university are filled and strengthened every year. This situation required the establishment of a special publishing house and a scientific journal at the university. In 2000, a special publishing house was established at the university in order to provide this vital need. "BukhSU scientific information" magazine is happy to serve not only Bukhara, but also all researchers who are conducting intense scientific research in other higher educational institutions of our Republic. Since 1997, the business school, and since 1999, the gymnasium school has been operating under the supervision of the university.
• The evaluation of students' knowledge based on the rating system was fully computerized in the university for the first time in the republic. In 2000, a local computer system was launched.
• The university has established cooperation with a number of research institutes of the Academy of Sciences of our country, UzMU, SamSU, FarDU and other leading higher educational institutions in the regions, with large scientific institutions in foreign countries. In this regard, agreements were signed with Aynush-Shams and Al-Azhar universities of the Arab Republic of Egypt, as well as Ar-Riya of Saudi Arabia, Stuttgart of Germany, Sorbonne III and V of France, Redding of Great Britain, Novosibirsk of Russia.
• As a result, exchange of students and experiences with these educational institutions has become a tradition. In 2004-2006, 2 masters of the university were awarded Presidential scholarships, 9 students were awarded state scholarships, 44 university students, and 32 students were awarded scholarships of other names.
During 2004-2006, university professors published 12 textbooks and study guides, more than 250 methodological works, 52 electronic study guides, 2004-2007 electronic version of more than 210 lecture texts was created.
• In the next three years, the results of scientific research work became more effective. In 2004-2006, 8 doctor's theses and 28 candidate's theses were successfully defended.
• The professors and teachers of the university are actively participating in the selection of state grants, fundamental, applied and innovative research funds and are achieving a number of achievements.
• In 2004-2006, scientific work was carried out on the basis of 9 grants (36199000 soums).
• • 4 academic lyceums, gymnasium, business school, 6 language learning centers, electronic library and information resource center, test center are operating at the university.
• Currently, 8778 students study at the university. 36 doctors of science and professors, 161 candidates of science and associate professors are teaching the basics of science to future specialists.
