The department of Uzbek literature

In 1930 the department of the Uzbek language and literature was created at the faculty of social sciences.Until 1945, Abdurauf Fitrat, Miyanbuzruk Solihov, Bakir Choponzoda, Kayum Karimov, Vohid Abdullayev, Murod Sharofiddinov, Ma'rifat Kazijonov and Pardaev taught in the department.In 1945, on the basis of this department, three independent departments were formed and the department of Uzbek Literature started functioning independently. In  1945-1953, 1957-1963, 1977-1988 Doctor of philological sciences, professor S.A. Aliyev, in 1963-1965 docent T. Hamid , in 1954-1957 docent A.Abdullayev, in 1960-1965 docent O.Rasulova,  in 1967-1972 docent T.Karaev,  in 1972-1977 docent R.Vahidov, and  in 1988-1992 professor O.Safarov headed the department. In 1992, on the basis of the Uzbek Literature Department Folklore and New Uzbek Literature, Tasavvuf and Uzbek Classic Literature Chairs were organized.

These chairs were headed by O.Safarov and R.Vohidov until 2005. In September 2005, both departments were reunited and started to be called the Department of Uzbek Literature. In 2010-2011 academic year Uzbek literature and  Uzbek linguistics departments were united and became the department of  Uzbek philology. On January 11, 2017, the department of  Uzbek philology began to function again as the department of  Uzbek literature and  Uzbek linguistics. The department annually prepares many qualified specialists, who are currently working in the fields of higher education, special education, journalism, tele-journalism and publishing.

 

Results of international cooperation and scientific cooperation with foreign countries.The articles by professors D.S.O'raeva, D.Kuvvatova, docents N.Bekova, H. Eshankulov have been published in magazines and collections of the United States, Russia, Czechoslovakia and Turkey.

The scientific potential of the teaching staff

The department of Uzbek literature consists of 18 professors and teachers. 3 of them are Ph.D., 10 candidates of sciences, associate professors, 1 candidate of science and 2 teachers. The professors and lecturers of the department regularly participate in republican and foreign scientific conferences throughout the year.

The Uzbek literature has 4 priority areas:

  1. a) comparative study of the development of national literature in the context of World Literature;
  2. b) regional collection of Bukhara folklore and its problems in the context of general Uzbek folklore;
  3. c) Comparative interpretation of Uzbek folklore samples in terms of comparative-historical, typological.
  4. d) Studying Uzbek Classical Literature

Scientific-research activities of the department. Implementation of the perspective plan of the department for the preparation of scientific and pedagogical cadres.

The department is working on the basis of a perspective plan for the training of scientific and pedagogical cadres. Candidates of philological sciences D.Rajabov, Sh.Davronova have written their dissertatioeve of their defense. Also, N.J.Bekova, H. Eshankulov, Z. Amanova and M.Rajabova are working hard on doctoral dissertations.
